Franchising Expo draws crowds ready to be their own boss

The Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo over the weekend drew throngs of business-ready visitors to the Melbourne Exhibition & Convention Centre, with queues out the door on both Saturday and Sunday.

“We were thrilled to see so many people wanting to find out more about taking the plunge into owning a business,” says Exhibition Director Tim Collett. “And with over 100 brands at the show there were plenty of concepts to choose from, whatever your passion or budget.”

The event was the third in a series of Expos staged around Australia and hosted a contingent of companies from Taiwan seeking Australian franchisees, as well as other international, national and local brands.

Exhibitors covered a huge range of industries; from food and beverage, retail and home services, to accounting and finance, tutoring, fitness and many more. There were also legal, financial and business consultants ready to offer advice and information.

As always, the seminar sessions were a highlight of the event, says Exhibition Manager Fiona Stacey. “The keynotes from Jim Penman, founder of Jim’s Group and entrepreneur Andrew Morello from The Entourage were both big hits in Melbourne this year.”

Exhibitors reported a highly successful show, with a great amount of interest in businesses at all investment entry points.

“It has been a fantastic day, I think this show is the best one all year,” said Giovanni Tam from Tax Store on the first day of the Expo. “I have been impressed by the number of accountants visiting, this is right on our target market.”

Clark Rubber used the Expo to launch its new Clark Pools & Spas Mobile Service concept, with a special show offer available. “We are aiming to sell 10 franchises from this show, and we’ll reach our target, I have no doubt about that,” said Group Chief Executive Officer Anthony Grice. “Being at the Expo is a critical part of our marketing plan, particularly for this new business concept.”

In 2020 there will be four Franchising & Business Opportunities Expos, at ICC Sydney in March, at Crown Perth in May, at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre in June and again at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre in August.

“Next year we are refreshing the Expo with a vibrant new look,” says Fiona Stacey. “We are also responding to exhibitor and visitor demand by changing the show days to Friday and Saturday in the east coast cities.”

Stacey adds that many exhibitors had such a successful show in Melbourne that they immediately rebooked for next year. “That’s why I urge anyone wishing to grow their business in 2020 to contact me immediately to secure their preferred space.”
