Expo highlights the rewards of being your own boss

With over 100 franchises and business models on show, this weekend’s Melbourne Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo will appeal to anyone who’s ever thought of giving it a go in their own business.

Event Director Tim Collett says, “if you want to break away from working for others, then you will find everything you need to take the leap at this event. You can talk to experts, compare the options, eyeball the people behind the brands and ask the hard questions, all under one roof.”

Collett adds that franchising is a proven business model and there are plenty of good companies that are keen to support their franchisees. “Every entrepreneur faces risks in business. A good franchise actually removes some of this risk because the branding, marketing and financial systems are already in place, and there is a supportive network of fellow franchisees.”

Established over thirty years ago, the Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo is being held at Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre 24-25 August, offering a unique platform to learn more about franchising and working for yourself.

There are free seminars running on the show floor throughout both days, with keynotes by Jim Penman, founder of Jim’s Group, and inspiring entrepreneur Andrew Morello from The Entourage.

Other speakers include the Victorian Small Business Commissioner Judy O’Connell; Brian Keen on how to franchise your own business; and Mary Aldred, CEO of the Franchise Council of Australia. Antony Crowther from New York Minute Burger will discuss how small businesses can work with disruptors like Uber Eats.

Exhibitors at the show include well-known brands such as Jim’s, Poolwerx, Noodle Box, Aussie, Snap Print & Design, HydroKleen, Yellow Brick Road, Fastway Couriers, Signarama and Clark Rubber. There will also be new and emerging brands such as Plumbing Bros., The Source Bulk Foods, Quantum Blast, 12RND Fitness, Eco Laundry Room, Flip Out, Kool Kids Childcare, Medimart, Solar Run, Pepper Lunch and Pattysmiths Handcrafted Premium Burgers.

Global exhibitors include Jon Smith Subs, Experimac, VentureX, Tutor Doctor, The Great Greek, Mail Boxes Etc., Signal 88 Security, Anytime Fitness, NumberWorks’nWords and Miniso. There will also be a large Taiwanese Pavilion showcasing a range of successful Asian companies.

Exhibition Manager Fiona Stacey says the Expo welcomes families and there will be free show bags for the first 100 visitors each day. “This is a show with something for everyone. Some visitors come with specific businesses in mind, while others are open to new ideas, in industries they had never previously considered.

“We also attract entrepreneurs wishing to grow their business through the franchising model. They come because the Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo is the country’s leading event to find information and inspiration to start, build or grow your own business.”
